Why you should trust this review

I have used a body groomer regularly since 2019, working through a Philips Bodygroom 1100, a Bodygroom 5000, and now the 7000. I bought the 7000 at retail. Philips did not provide the unit. Body grooming is intensely personal and the products live or die on comfort and nick prevention, which only reveal themselves over months of use on the areas that actually matter, so a quick test would be worthless here.

My routine is real and varied: a low chest trim weekly, clean underarm shaving, and full groin maintenance every two weeks. Nine months across all of those areas is the genuine test of a body groomer, and everything below comes from that, not from a spec sheet.

I assessed the 4D pivoting head on contoured areas like the chest and groin, compared the foil shaver’s closeness against my Braun face shaver on the underarm, and alternated wet and dry sessions over four weeks to judge shower performance. Counting nicks over nine months is the most honest measure of whether the skin protection actually works.

The trimmer side

The trimmer handles all the bulk-reduction work, and it does it cleanly. The 5-position adjustable comb covers 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 mm, which spans short stubble to medium chest hair. After nine months the blade has not noticeably dulled, which speaks to decent build quality on the part that does the most work.

For a 7 mm chest trim, a typical session takes me six to eight minutes. The cutting width is reasonable and faster than a face trimmer would manage on the same area. You can also run it without a comb for very short stubble work, though I rarely do. The one real limitation is the 11 mm ceiling: if you like to keep longer chest hair, that maximum may be too short, and that is worth knowing before you buy.

The foil shaver and skin guard

The foil shaver is for clean shaves on areas like the underarm, lower abdomen, and groin. It is comfortable and effective, but it is not as close as a dedicated face shaver like the Braun Series 9 Pro+. For body areas, that is the right tradeoff, because comfort and nick prevention matter far more than getting a baby-smooth finish on skin that is more sensitive and more contoured than a face.

The integrated skin guard is the standout feature and the reason I rate this so highly. It raises the shaver slightly off the skin, and across nine months it gave me zero nicks in the groin and underarm areas. For context, my previous Bodygroom 5000 nicked me four to six times in a comparable period. That is a genuine, measurable upgrade, and for anyone who has cut themselves with a body groomer before, it is the headline reason to choose the 7000.

Pivoting head, battery, and what is missing

The 4D pivoting head is under-marketed but does real work. On flat areas like the chest it is invisible, but on contoured areas like the groin and underarm it keeps the cutting surface flush with the skin without me having to manually angle the tool. That flush contact is a big part of why the nick count stayed at zero. Combined with the skin guard, it makes sensitive-area grooming genuinely worry-free.

Battery retention is excellent. Philips rates 90 minutes and I measured 86 after nine months, which is 96 percent of rated, an unusually strong result. A full body session takes me about 15 minutes, so one charge covers five or six sessions. The dated note is the micro-USB charging port, which feels behind in 2026 when rivals like the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5 have moved to USB-C. The 7000 also has no display, just a 3-LED bar, and the included travel pouch is flimsy fabric rather than a hard case. None of those are dealbreakers, but they are real.

Buy it if you want a single tool for all below-the-neck grooming, you have nicked yourself with previous body groomers and want real skin protection, or you do mixed trim-and-shave work across different body areas. The dual-sided design genuinely covers both bulk reduction and clean shaving, which is the convenience most people are after.

Skip it if your priority is groin-specific grooming, where the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5 is more focused, or if you want to manage long chest hair, where the 11 mm maximum may be too short. The verdict

The Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000 is the body groomer I now reach for week after week. After nine months across every below-the-neck area, the dual-sided design handled both trimming and shaving, the battery barely degraded, and the skin guard plus pivoting head delivered zero nicks where my old groomer used to draw blood. The 11 mm ceiling, the less-close foil, and the micro-USB port are real limits, but for an all-in-one body groomer that prioritizes comfort and skin protection, this is the bar, and it is the one I bought with my own money.
