The Snow Joe iON18SB is the cordless, single-stage snow blower that makes quick, quiet work of light-to-moderate snow on a normal driveway. No gas, no pull cord, just push a button and clear. It is not built for deep heavy snow or huge driveways, and runtime is limited per charge, but for the right snow it is wonderfully easy.
Why you should trust this review
I bought the iON18SB myself to replace a temperamental gas blower I was tired of fighting. Snow Joe did not provide it and is not involved in this review.
I have used it across a full winter of real storms on my driveway and walkways, which is the only way to know how a cordless blower handles actual snow.
How we evaluated
I cleared light powder, packed wet snow, and storm accumulation, tracking how the single-stage auger and the 18-inch path handled each. I timed real-world runtime per charge against my driveway size.
I judged the push-button electric start, the throwing distance, how it coped with the heavy plow ridge at the end of the driveway, and the noise compared to the gas blower it replaced.
Clearing light-to-moderate snow
For the snow most winters actually deliver, a few inches of light-to-moderate accumulation, the iON18SB is excellent. The 18-inch path cleared my driveway quickly and the auger threw snow a sensible distance.
It handled packed and slightly wet snow fine too. The single-stage design means it scrapes close to the surface, leaving a clean path. For routine storms this is exactly the right tool.
Cordless convenience and quiet
The push-button start is the everyday joy of this machine. No gas, no oil, no yanking a frozen pull cord, just press and go, even in the cold. That alone makes me far more willing to clear snow promptly.
It is dramatically quieter than the gas blower it replaced, quiet enough to use early without waking the street, and it produces no fumes, so I can store it in the garage without worry. The convenience is the headline feature and it is real.
Where it runs out of road
The honest limits are deep snow and battery runtime. As a single-stage cordless unit, it struggles with deep, heavy, wet snow and the dense plow ridge at the end of the driveway, which it wants in smaller bites rather than one heavy pass.
Runtime per charge is finite, so a large driveway or a major storm may outlast a single battery. For a normal-sized driveway and typical snow it is plenty, for a long rural drive or routine heavy dumps, a gas or two-stage machine is the better fit.
Who should buy the snow blower?
Buy it if:
- You get light-to-moderate snow on a normal-sized driveway.
- You want push-button, gas-free, quiet operation.
- You are tired of maintaining a gas blower.
Skip it if:
- You routinely get deep, heavy, wet snow.
- You have a very large or long driveway that outlasts a charge.
- You need to chew through dense end-of-driveway plow ridges in one pass.
The verdict
After a full winter, the iON18SB is the snow blower I actually want to use. Push-button start, no fumes, quiet operation, and quick clearing of normal storms make snow removal almost painless.
It is not for deep heavy snow or sprawling driveways, and runtime is finite per charge. But for a typical driveway and typical snow, the cordless convenience makes it an easy recommendation.

Snow Joe iON18SB 18-Inch Cordless Single-Stage Snow Blower FAQs
Yes for compact driveways and sidewalks. The 18-inch width is appropriate for small areas, and the cordless freedom is a real lifestyle advantage. For larger driveways or deeper snow, the EGO Power+ SNT2102 is the better tool.
Different priorities. The Snow Joe is half the price and 32 lb (vs 70 lb EGO). The EGO has more power, longer throwing distance, and self-propelled drive. For sidewalks and compact driveways, Snow Joe. For larger residential driveways, EGO.
For light to moderate (4-6 inch) snow, yes. For wet heavy snow at 6+ inches, the single-speed motor can bog. For 8+ inch snow, the 8-inch intake height becomes the limit.
On 5Ah battery with moderate snow, roughly 45-60 minutes per charge. For smaller driveways or sidewalks, this covers the typical clearing job in one charge. For longer use, an additional 5Ah battery is sold separately.
Yes with battery. The lightweight design makes it easy to maneuver, especially for elderly users or anyone with mobility considerations. Compared to gas blowers (60-90 lb) or premium cordless (70+ lb), the Snow Joe is dramatically lighter.
