Atlantic Drawbridge Media Rack - Best Overall
The Drawbridge holds 240 CDs in a footprint barely bigger than a hardback book. The flip-out shelves rotate forward so you can read every spine without crawling on the floor.
Check price on Amazon →I still own 800 CDs and I have tried more storage solutions than I want to admit. These five actually work.
I am stubborn about physical media. My CD collection is somewhere north of 800 discs and I still play it through a proper Marantz player most evenings. The problem with collecting that many CDs is finding somewhere to actually store them that does not look like a thrift store back room.
I have cycled through plastic spinning towers from the late 1990s, IKEA hacks, custom shelving, and a few dedicated CD racks marketed for collectors. The five below are the ones I either own right now or have recommended to friends who later thanked me for the suggestion.

Sauder Beginnings Storage Cabinet - Best Closed Storage
If you would rather hide the collection behind doors, the Sauder cabinet holds about 280 CDs on adjustable shelves and looks like normal furniture.
Atlantic Element Media Tower - Best Budget
The Element tower holds 116 CDs in an open spine-out display. Cheap, sturdy enough, and small enough to fit beside a desk.

If you are willing to ditch jewel cases, the Case Logic 400 holds an entire mid-sized collection in something the size of a phone book. The polypropylene sleeves are gentle on discs.

Prepac Wall Mounted Media Storage - Best Wall Mount
For tight rooms, the Prepac wall unit holds 264 CDs without eating any floor space. Mount it on studs and load it up.
Questions answered
Up to you. I ripped lossless and kept the discs as backups. Storage racks make that practical without giving up half a closet.
Cheap binders with foam sleeves can scratch over time. Buy archival quality polypropylene sleeves and you are fine for decades.
