The modern kit zoom. Image stabilization helps the 30D, which is itself unstabilized. Optical quality is much better than the old 18-55 kit lens that originally shipped with the camera. Cheap on the used market and a good general-purpose lens.

For landscapes and architecture, the 10-18 is the widest affordable option. On the 30D crop sensor this is 16 to 29mm equivalent. Sharp corners, image stabilization, and a price under 300 dollars. The lens that opened up landscape work for my 30D.

The pancake. Lightweight, takes almost no space in a bag, and gives a 64mm equivalent field of view that works for portraits and street. Sharp from wide open and quiet autofocus. The lens I leave on the body for street walks.

For sports, wildlife, and birds, the 70-300 IS II is the right reach on a 30D. Crop sensor multiplies to about 112-480mm equivalent. Image stabilization is essential at the long end because the 30D's ISO performance falls apart above 800.
