Magmod MagSphere
The MagSphere is the diffuser I use most for event work. Magnetic mount snaps onto a Magmod band on the flash head, no Velcro, no twisting. The dome diffuses light forward and outward, which is what you want for ambient fill in a room.

Each pick, examined
Magmod MagSphere
The MagSphere is the diffuser I use most for event work. Magnetic mount snaps onto a Magmod band on the flash head, no Velcro, no twisting. The dome diffuses light forward and outward, which is what you want for ambient fill in a room.
Westcott Rapid Box Switch 20-Inch
For portraits, the Westcott Rapid Box 20-inch is the speedlight softbox I keep coming back to. Folds like an umbrella in seconds, mounts to a stand with an included speedlight bracket, and the light quality is genuinely soft. The internal diffuser plus front diffuser stack gives even falloff.
Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible
The Lightsphere is the original event diffuser, and Gary Fong has refined it over many generations. The collapsible silicone dome compresses for travel and pops back to shape on use. Diffusion is wider than the MagSphere, which is sometimes what you want for big rooms.

Godox AK-R1 Accessory Kit
The Godox AK-R1 is a kit of round-head accessories that includes a dome, gels, grids, and a snoot. Designed for the Godox V1 and the AD200 round head, it brings small-flash modifiers to the speedlight world. If you shoot Godox, this kit is the most flexible bundle out there.

Neewer 24-Inch Octagon Softbox
For studio-style portraits on a budget, the Neewer 24-inch octagon softbox plus a speedlight bracket gives you genuinely soft light at a fraction of strobe pricing. Build quality is fine for the price, and the octagon shape gives round catchlights.
Questions answered
Diffusers cost roughly one to two stops of light, depending on size and material. Most modern speedlights have plenty of power to compensate, especially at ISO 800 and up. Adjust your output or aperture and you are fine.
Softboxes give noticeably softer light because the diffusion surface is larger. Dome diffusers spread light wider for ambient mixing but the light source size stays small. Use softboxes for portraits, domes for fill at events.
