Klean-Strip Premium uses methylene chloride which cuts through epoxy in 15 to 30 minutes where citrus strippers would take eight hours and still leave most of the coating behind. You absolutely must use this with strong cross-ventilation, chemical gloves, and eye protection. It works fast and works well, but treat it like the hazardous chemical it is.
Dumond Smart Strip Pro
Dumond Smart Strip Pro is the pro choice for stripping multiple layers of old paint at once. Benzyl alcohol-based formula that you can dwell for up to 24 hours under plastic, then peel off the paint with the stripper in one mass. I used this on a basement floor with three coats of forty-year-old oil-based paint and it lifted all three layers in a single application. Pricey per gallon but the labor savings on multi-layer jobs are huge.
Sunnyside Hi-Speed Stripper
Sunnyside Hi-Speed is the fast methylene chloride alternative to Klean-Strip Premium. Slightly thinner consistency that flows into pits in concrete and lifts paint from porous surfaces, and a 5 to 15 minute dwell time on latex coatings. Same safety precautions as any methylene chloride product. I use this on outdoor concrete like driveways where I can work in full open air, and it is genuinely the fastest stripper I have ever used.
Back to Nature Multi-Strip
Back to Nature Multi-Strip is the eco-friendly upgrade pick. Soy-based, low VOC, biodegradable, and effective on most paint types with longer dwell times. Works on concrete, wood, metal, and brick. You give up some speed compared to methylene chloride but you can use it indoors with minimal ventilation. Good choice for basement projects where venting is hard, or for renters who do not want chemicals lingering for days.
