Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus. Best Smart Lighting
The Hue Lightstrip Plus gives you 2,000 lumens of full-color light that integrates with HomeKit, Google, Alexa, and SmartThings. Extendable to 10 meters, scenes are unlimited via the Hue app, and it works with light switches and motion sensors in the Hue ecosystem. The two-year warranty and the longevity of the platform are why I keep buying Hue.
Check price on Amazon →I installed five different under cabinet lighting systems in my kitchen and these are the ones that actually transformed my prep area.
Under cabinet lighting is one of those upgrades that sounds minor but changes how you actually use your kitchen. After years of squinting at chopping boards in the shadows of upper cabinets, I went deep on testing options – plug-in strips, hardwired pucks, battery-powered motion lights, full smart systems. The category has matured a lot in 2026, and the best options now combine high CRI lighting with smart controls and easy install.
Below are the five systems I would buy with my own money, plus what I learned about brightness, color, and which install method works for which kitchen.

LEPOTEC LED Under Cabinet Kit. Best Budget
For you get two 12-inch LED bars, a plug-in adapter, and mounting hardware. 500 lumens each at 3000K is plenty for prep work. The bars magnet-mount to a steel bracket, so install is tool-free and pulls down in seconds if you need to redirect. Surprisingly nice build for the price.
Sunco LED Strip Under Cabinet Kit. Best Hardwired
If you want the clean wired look without a separate plug for every section, the Sunco hardwired kit is the right choice. Wires daisy-chain between bars, the included junction box hides cabling, and the bars are 4000K (a great task lighting color). I would have an electrician do the install and call it a permanent kitchen upgrade.
Wobane Motion Sensor Cabinet Light. Best Motion-Activated
The Wobane motion-sensor light is the perfect tool for a pantry, closet, or seldom-used cabinet. 400 lumens, rechargeable battery, and a PIR sensor that activates instantly when you open the door. Battery lasts about a month per charge in moderate use. Magnetic mounting makes install a 30-second job.

LIFX Z LED Strip. Best Color Brightness
LIFX Z punches harder than Hue in raw output - about 900 lumens per meter. Individual zone control along the strip lets you set different colors and brightness in different sections, which is fun for entertaining. Wi-Fi based (no hub needed), and the app is genuinely well-built. A bit pricier but the brightness is meaningful.
FAQs
Plug-in and battery models install with no electrician needed. Hardwired systems should be done by an electrician unless you have wiring experience and know your local code.
Most people prefer 3000K to 4000K for kitchen task lighting. Warmer (2700K) is cozy but harder to see fine details; cooler (5000K+) feels clinical.
