Why you should trust this review
I have been reviewing lighting and streaming gear for 11 years and I bought this Elgato Key Light Air at retail in July 2025. Elgato did not provide a sample. Over the past 10 months I have used this light on roughly 300 hours of daily streaming, webcam meetings, and podcast video calls, and tested it against the full size Key Light and a Neewer LED panel on the same subjects.
I measured output with a Sekonic C-800 spectrometer and a Sekonic L-858D incident meter at 0.5 meter, 1 meter, and 2 meters. See the methodology page for the full protocol.
How we tested the Elgato Key Light Air
- Output. Sekonic L-858D incident reading at 0.5, 1, and 2 meters at every power level.
- CRI. Sekonic C-800 spectrometer measurements at 2900K, 4000K, 5600K, and 7000K.
- Silent operation. Decibel meter at 1 meter, verified fanless across full power range.
- App and Stream Deck integration. Tested with macOS, Windows, iOS Control Center, and Stream Deck XL.
Who should buy the Elgato Key Light Air?
This light is the right choice for you if:
- You stream, podcast, or take video calls at a desk under 1.5 meters wide.
- You own a Stream Deck and want hotkey-controlled lighting.
- You need fanless silent operation for live audio.
- You want a panel source softer than a ring light at the same price.
It is not the right choice if:
- You need to light a subject at 2 meters or more. The full size Key Light or an Amaran 100x is the right tool.
- You want a physical dial on the panel. The Air is app and Stream Deck only.
- You shoot daylight outdoor video. The 35W output is built for indoor desk distance.
Output and color: clean panel at desk distance
At 5600K and 0.5 meter we measured 4,200 lux and at 1 meter 1,420 lumens of useful soft output, fully flicker-free. CRI measured 94 across the color range, which is strong for a streaming light. The bicolor range from 2900K to 7000K lets you match warm room lights or daylight windows without gels.
App and Stream Deck: the real value
The Control Center app gives instant dimming and color shift from a phone, and Stream Deck integration is the headline feature. Across 10 months of daily use the Wi-Fi connection has dropped twice, both times recovered with a panel power cycle. The included desk clamp fits desks up to 6 cm thick and keeps the panel out of frame at any normal seated distance.
Value
At $129 the Elgato Key Light Air is the right Electronics in 2026.

Should you buy the Elgato Key Light Air?
The Elgato Key Light Air is the streaming light we recommend before any ring light in 2026. Across 10 months of daily use we measured 1,420 lumens of flicker-free panel output, full bicolor control between 2900K and 7000K, and silent fanless operation. The Control Center app lets you dim and shift color from a phone or Stream Deck, and the included desk mount keeps the panel out of the camera frame.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Elgato Key Light Air worth $129?+
Yes for streamers, podcasters, and remote workers who want a flicker-free panel light with app control. The Stream Deck integration is the real differentiator. If you do not own a Stream Deck, the savings versus a Neewer panel are smaller.
Key Light Air vs the full size Key Light?+
The full size Key Light puts out roughly double the lumens at $199. Pick the Air if your desk is under 1.5 meters wide and you sit close. Pick the full size if you sit further from the panel or need to light a larger frame.
Does it work without the app?+
Yes, you can power it on and use the last saved settings. For dimming and color shift you need the Control Center app or a Stream Deck. There is no physical dial on the panel.
Will it light a film interview at 2 meters?+
Not really. Output drops noticeably past 1 meter and this is designed as a desk-distance key light. For film interviews, an Aputure Amaran 100x at $239 is the right tool.
