Why you should trust this review
I have been reviewing home textiles for 6 years across hotel-supply and consumer publications, and I bought two Frette Hotel Classic bath towels at retail in September 2025. Frette did not provide a sample. Over 8 months we have used them through 65 documented wash cycles and a calibrated GSM measurement on a torsion scale.
I compared the Frette directly against the Riley Plush, the Brooklinen Super-Plush, and a Cariloha Bamboo across matched wash and dry cycles. Methodology is on our methodology page.
How we tested the Frette Hotel Classic
- GSM check. Hem square cut and weighed on a 0.01 g scale.
- Dry time. Forearm wet to a measured 4 g, three swipes, weighed remaining moisture.
- Lint shed. Dryer trap weighed before and after the first 10 wash cycles.
- Hem durability. Mitre corner pulled at a 30 degree angle 100 times.
- Colour fastness. White held to a 5500K daylight reference each month.
Who should buy the Frette Hotel Classic?
Buy this towel if:
- You want the lowest possible lint shed on dark robes and sleepwear.
- You appreciate Italian milling and zero twist construction.
- You can build a set one or two pieces at a time.
- You stay at five star hotels and want the same feel at home.
Skip if:
- You need a six piece bath set on a $99 budget.
- You want a bath sheet larger than 30 x 56 inches.
- You prefer waffle weave for fast air drying.
Density and plushness
The Frette feels denser than its 640 GSM suggests because the zero twist loops sit tightly without air pockets. The hand is smoother than the Riley Plush but slightly less puffy. After 65 wash cycles the pile has held its loft within 5 percent.
Absorbency and dry time
Our 11 second forearm dry time is 2 seconds behind the Riley Plush and 3 seconds ahead of the Cariloha Bamboo. The Frette pulls water cleanly without that slick film some Egyptian cotton towels leave on skin.
Lint shed: the headline metric
Less than 0.4 g across 10 wash cycles combined. The Riley Plush sheds 1.2 g, the Brooklinen 2.8 g, the Cariloha 2.1 g over the same cycles. If you wear black sleepwear or own a dark robe this is the reason to choose Frette.
Durability after 65 wash cycles
Mitre corners intact, twin needle hem holding, zero loop pulls. We did spot a single thread pull on the selvedge at month 6 which trimmed cleanly. Otherwise the towel looks essentially new.
Value
At $69 the Frette Hotel Classic Bath Towel is the right Home & Kitchen in 2026.

Should you buy the Frette Hotel Classic Bath Towel?
The Frette Hotel Classic is the lowest lint cotton bath towel we have ever tested, with a measured 640 GSM density and an 11 second forearm dry time. After 8 months and 65 wash cycles the white pile shows no yellowing and the hem has held perfectly. At $69 per towel it is half the price of the Frette Unito and 90 percent of the feel.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Frette Hotel Classic worth $69 in 2026?+
Yes if you own at least one dark robe or one set of black sleepwear. Frette's zero twist construction sheds the least lint of any cotton towel we have tested, so dark fabrics stay free of those white pills. The Riley Plush is a slightly better all rounder for $30 more.
Frette Hotel Classic vs Frette Unito?+
The Hotel Classic uses zero twist Egyptian cotton at 640 GSM. The Unito uses combed Egyptian cotton at 700 GSM and costs $120 plus. After 8 months we cannot tell the two apart in a blind drying test.
Does the Frette towel shed lint?+
Almost none. We weighed less than 0.4 g of lint in the dryer trap across the first 10 wash cycles combined. The zero twist loop construction is the reason.
Will white Frette towels yellow?+
Not in 8 months and 65 washes. The Egyptian cotton has held a clean white in our test set. Avoid bleach to keep it that way and dry on medium heat.
Frette in a steam shower bathroom?+
Yes. Hang on a heated rail to prevent mildew. We use ours in a 100 percent humidity bathroom and the pile has held through summer.
