Why you should trust this review

I have covered TVs for 11 years with prior bylines at Tomโ€™s Guide and What Hi-Fi. We purchased our 83-inch G4 at retail through B&H in mid October 2025. LG did not provide a sample. Across 7 months I have logged roughly 310 hours of viewing including 28 4K Blu-ray titles, the 2025 NFL playoffs, and 90 hours of PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X gaming.

For comparison work I lined the G4 up against the Samsung S95D 77-inch and the Samsung QN90D 85-inch we have on the bench. Every brightness number came from a Klein K10-A calibrated against a Murideo Six-G pattern generator.

How we tested the LG G4 83-inch

Our OLED protocol is a minimum of 90 days. For the G4 we ran 212 days. Specifically:

  • Peak brightness, Klein K10-A across 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 percent windows in HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision.
  • Black level, every patch reading below the meter floor in a 0.05 lux room.
  • Burn-in monitoring, photographed pixel-shifted reference patterns at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 days.
  • Input lag, Leo Bodnar 4K tester in Game Mode at 4K/60 and PS5 Pro at 4K/120.
  • Smart platform, cold app-launch times for Disney Plus, Max, Apple TV, Netflix, and YouTube.

Who should buy the LG G4 OLED 83-inch?

Buy this if you:

  • Want the best picture quality money can buy at 83 inches.
  • Watch a lot of Dolby Vision streaming and 4K Blu-ray content.
  • Have a dim-to-moderately-lit room.
  • Game on PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X with Dolby Vision support.

Skip this if you:

  • Have a bright room with multiple windows. A Samsung QN90D or S95D will handle glare better.
  • Need the absolute biggest screen per dollar. The TCL Q6 98-inch is bigger for less.
  • Plan to keep the same channel on for 8+ hours a day with static logos.

Picture quality: the reference, with brightness to spare

The Klein K10-A logged 1,480 nits on a 10 percent HDR window in Filmmaker Mode, a meaningful step up from the 2023 G3 and more than enough headroom for the bright specular highlights HDR demands. Black levels read below the meter floor on every pattern, which means infinite contrast in practice. The combination of MLA-boosted brightness and OLEDโ€™s perfect blacks is what makes the G4 the reference.

HDR performance: Dolby Vision IQ is the gold standard

Out-of-the-box Filmmaker Mode is calibrated tightly out of the box with Delta E averages of 1.8 across our 100-patch Calman test. Dolby Vision IQ adapts tone mapping to room light intelligently. The G4 does not support HDR10+, but the Dolby Vision library covers most premium streaming content.

Gaming features: every box checked

All four HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K/120 with VRR (40 to 120 Hz), ALLM, G-Sync Compatible, and FreeSync Premium. We measured 9.1 ms input lag in Game Mode at 4K/120 via the PS5 Pro. Dolby Vision gaming on Xbox Series X works flawlessly. PC users can run 4K/144 through HDMI 2.1.

Smart platform: webOS 24 has finally caught up

webOS 24 is a meaningful improvement over webOS 23. App cold-launches averaged:

  • Netflix, 2.4 seconds
  • Disney Plus, 2.9 seconds
  • Max, 2.8 seconds
  • Apple TV, 3.6 seconds
  • YouTube, 1.9 seconds

That is competitive with Samsung Tizen 8.

Sound quality: better than expected from a flat panel

The 4.2 channel 60W system is surprisingly capable for a TV less than two inches thick. Dialogue is clearer than on the Samsung QN90D. For movies we still recommend a soundbar. Our Sonos Arc paired cleanly over eARC.

Bottom line: the 83-inch to buy if you can afford it

If you have a home theater room and the budget, the LG G4 OLED 83-inch is the best TV you can buy in 2026.

โ˜… FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the LG G4 OLED Evo (83-inch OLED83G4WUA)?

The LG G4 at 83 inches is the reference big-screen OLED in 2026. We measured 1,480 nits on a 10 percent HDR window thanks to LG's Micro Lens Array panel, perfect black levels across every test pattern, and Dolby Vision support across streaming and gaming. webOS 24 has finally matured into a platform we recommend, and the wall-mount-flush design looks better in a living room than any LCD. The price is the only real catch.

Frequently asked questions

Is the LG G4 OLED 83-inch worth $5,999 in 2026?+

For a dedicated home theater room, yes. The 83-inch G4 delivers reference-grade contrast, the best motion handling of any TV we have tested, and full Dolby Vision support. It is not the best value per inch at this tier, but it is the picture quality benchmark.

LG G4 vs Samsung S95D: which is better?+

Both are excellent. The S95D is slightly brighter at peak and has the matte anti-glare layer. The G4 has Dolby Vision support and a stronger app ecosystem. Pick the S95D for bright rooms and HDR10+ content. Pick the G4 if your library is heavy in Dolby Vision titles.

Is OLED burn-in still a real risk in 2026?+

Risk is very low for typical mixed-use viewing. LG's pixel-shifting and screen-refresh algorithms have improved every year. Across 7 months of mixed sports, news, gaming, and streaming we saw no measurable retention. Static logos for 8+ hours a day would still be a concern.

Is the G4 a good gaming TV?+

Yes. All four HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K/120 with VRR and Dolby Vision gaming. We measured 9.1 ms input lag in Game Mode at 4K/120 via the PS5 Pro. The Game Optimizer overlay is the best of any TV we have tested in 2026.
