Why you should trust this review

I have used body groomers for over a decade and worked through three Norelco Bodygroom generations and two earlier Manscaped Lawn Mower models. The 5.0 Ultra reviewed here was bought at retail from Amazon in October 2025 for $99. Manscaped did not provide the unit.

I groom weekly and have sensitive skin on the chest and the under-arm areas. The SkinSafe claim is the reason Manscaped earned a slot in my rotation in 2022 and the dual-head 5.0 is the natural upgrade path.

How we tested the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra

  • 7 months of weekly use, both in the shower and on dry skin.
  • Battery runtime measured continuously from full charge (88 minutes).
  • Cut quality compared against the Lawn Mower 4.0 and Norelco Bodygroom 7000.
  • Skin safety tracked by counting nicks per session across the testing window.
  • LED light tested in low-light shower conditions. See our methodology.
  • Waterproofing verified with full shower-use submersion.

Who should buy the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra

Buy it if you want a single tool that trims to length and finishes close, you have sensitive skin and like the SkinSafe approach, you groom in the shower and want full waterproofing, or you find LED lights actually useful for hard-to-see areas. Skip it if you only want trim length (the Lawn Mower 4.0 is $49 and does that piece just as well), or you want a multigroom that does beard and ear and nose (the Norelco multigroom is the better fit).

Dual head: the differentiator

The 5.0 Ultra ships with the ceramic trim head and a separate foil finish head. The trim head leaves a clean uniform length, the foil head takes the finish closer where you want it. Swapping is a five-second twist and pull.

This is the meaningful upgrade over the 4.0. With the 4.0 you trim and you are done; with the 5.0 Ultra you trim and finish in one session.

Skin safety: zero nicks in 7 months

The SkinSafe blade design rounds the cutting tips so the blade does not catch on skin directly. I have not nicked myself in seven months of weekly use, which is genuinely better than my old Bodygroom 7000 record (roughly one nick every six weeks).

The foil head needs a careful pass; it is closer and less forgiving than the ceramic trim head. After three uses my technique adapted and the finish has been clean since.

Battery: 88 minutes measured

Manscaped rates 90 minutes. We measured 88 minutes after 7 months, which is 98 percent retention. A typical weekly session takes 10 minutes, so a charge handles roughly 8 sessions. USB-C charging means I can top up from any phone charger, which is more flexible than the older Norelco micro-USB.

LED light: useful for once

Most LED lights on grooming tools are gimmicks. The 5.0 Ultraโ€™s spotlight is bright enough to actually reveal the longer hairs I miss in normal bathroom lighting. In the shower the difference is clear and the light is more useful than I expected.

Waterproofing: full IPX7

The whole tool goes under the water with no concern. I use it weekly in the shower and rinse after each session. Seven months in there has been no corrosion or moisture issues.

What is missing

No travel case at this price (the 4.0 includes one), and the heads need annual replacement. The 5.0 Ultra is a focused body grooming tool that does its job, the omissions are minor.

The 5.0 Ultra in context

For weekly body grooming with a finish-close pass, the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the tool I would buy. For trim only at lower cost, the older Lawn Mower 4.0 is the budget option. Both are excellent.

Value

At $99 the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the right Beauty & Personal Care in 2026.

โ˜… FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the Manscaped Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra?

The Manscaped Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra is the most thoughtful body groomer I have used. The dual-head design pairs the SkinSafe ceramic blade I know from the 4.0 with a new foil head for the closer finishing pass, the 90-minute lithium battery delivered 88 minutes in testing, and the LED light is bright enough to actually be useful in the shower. Full IPX7 waterproofing means the whole tool goes under the water with no worry. At $99 it is twice the Lawn Mower 4.0 price and earns the gap if you want the foil-head finish that the single-head 4.0 does not offer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra worth $99 in 2026?+

Yes if you want the foil finish head that the cheaper 4.0 does not offer. The 5.0 trims and finishes in one tool; the 4.0 only trims. If you only want trim length, save the money and buy the 4.0.

Is the SkinSafe claim real?+

In my testing, yes. The blade tips are rounded to prevent direct skin contact and I have not had a nick in seven months of weekly use. It is not foolproof; go slowly on the most sensitive areas.

Can the whole thing go in the shower?+

Yes, IPX7 waterproofing covers full submersion. I use it in the shower weekly with no issues. Rinse and pat dry after each session.

How often do the heads need replacing?+

Manscaped recommends ceramic blade replacement every 3 months and foil head every 12 months. In practice the ceramic blade still cuts cleanly at 7 months. Replacement blades are $15 and foil is $19.
