Cut quality and power
On weekly maintenance mowing the MJ401E cuts cleanly. The corded motor never bogged down on dry grass at a sensible height, and the 14-inch deck leaves an even finish if you keep up with it.
Let the lawn get long or wet and the small deck shows its limits, both in passes required and in occasional clumping. This is a mower for staying ahead of the grass, not for catching up after a vacation.
The cord, not the motor, is the limit
The genuine constraint is the 100-foot cord. On a lot bigger than roughly 2,000 to 2,500 square feet, managing the cord around beds and trees becomes the whole experience, and you spend more attention on the cable than the cut.
The flip side is unlimited runtime. There is no battery to deplete halfway through, no charge cycles, nothing to replace in three years. For a small lawn within reach of an outlet, that simplicity is the appeal.
Weight, storage, and build

Sun Joe recommends up to 100 ft of 12 gauge outdoor extension. Going longer or using thinner gauge will drop voltage at the motor under load and cause power loss or thermal trips. We compared at 50 ft of 14 gauge and 100 ft of 12 gauge both worked cleanly.
Marginally. Raise the cut to 3 inches, walk slowly, and plan to do two passes on tall grass. The 12 amp motor will bog noticeably if fed too aggressively, but it will recover. We did not trip the thermal in normal use.
