Why you should trust this review

I have reviewed home theater and audio gear for 14 years with bylines at Engadget, What Hi-Fi, and AVS Forum. The SVS PB-1000 Pro in this review was purchased at retail in July 2025. SVS did not provide a sample.

Across 9 months I logged 200 hours of mixed music and movie duty. The PB-1000 Pro paired with a Marantz SR5015 AVR driving Klipsch RP-600M II front speakers in a 22 sqm room.

Comparison units include the SVS SB-1000 Pro, Klipsch R-100SW, and a Rythmik L12 reference.

How we tested the PB-1000 Pro

The subwoofer protocol minimum is 30 days. We extended to 274 days. Specifically:

  • Frequency response sweep, calibrated USB mic at the listening position, 10 Hz to 100 Hz.
  • Room mode test, before and after parametric EQ on the 64 Hz peak we found.
  • Output test, sealed-output volume increment until distortion exceeded 5 percent.
  • Music test, listening panel on Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, and orchestral content.
  • Movie test, dedicated LFE-heavy scenes (Dune, Top Gun Maverick, Mad Max Fury Road).

Full protocol on our methodology page.

Who should buy the PB-1000 Pro?

Buy this if you:

  • Want strong sub-bass for movies in a 14 to 30 sqm room.
  • Care about app-based EQ and room correction.
  • Have an AVR or stereo system with an RCA sub-out.
  • Value the 5-year warranty.

Skip this if you:

  • Want a small footprint. The cabinet is 50 cm tall.
  • Listen primarily to music. The sealed SB-1000 Pro is tighter.
  • Use Sonos and need to pair with a Sonos Arc. Get the Sonos Sub or Sub Mini.

Bass extension: class-leading at this price

We measured the PB-1000 Pro at minus 3 dB at 17.5 Hz and minus 10 dB at 14 Hz at the listening position. That is competitive with subwoofers in the $1,000-plus range. The 12 inch ported design uses cabinet tuning to extend deeper than a sealed sub of the same driver size.

Output: handles a room

In our 22 sqm test room, the PB-1000 Pro delivered 105 dB SPL at the listening position at 30 Hz with under 5 percent distortion. The Klipsch R-100SW reached 96 dB at the same frequency before similar distortion. The PB-1000 Pro is 9 dB more capable.

Musical accuracy: better than expected for ported

Ported subs are stereotypically loose, sealed are stereotypically tight. The PB-1000 Pro splits the difference better than most ported designs at this price. On music, we ran it with a 60 Hz crossover and the integration with the Klipsch RP-600M II was seamless. For pure music, the SB-1000 Pro is still tighter.

App and EQ: the real differentiator

The SVS Subwoofer Control app provides 3-band parametric EQ, phase, polarity, low-pass filter, and presets. We found a 64 Hz room mode in our test room and reduced it 6 dB with one parametric notch. No competitor at this price offers parametric EQ.

Build quality and long-term reliability

The cabinet is solid MDF with a textured black ash finish. After 9 months no rattles, no driver excursion changes, and the amplifier has run cool through extended LFE-heavy movies. The 5-year warranty is industry-leading.

โ˜… FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the SVS PB-1000 Pro?

The SVS PB-1000 Pro is the best subwoofer we have tested under $700 in 2026. The 12 inch ported design extends to 17 Hz at minus 3 dB and the SVS app provides parametric EQ and room calibration that competitors at this price do not offer. It loses to the Klipsch R-100SW on raw efficiency and to a Rythmik on absolute musical refinement, but for a one-purchase home-theater-and-music sub, this is the pick.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SVS PB-1000 Pro worth $599 in 2026?+

Yes. It is the most complete subwoofer package we have tested under $700. The 17 Hz extension, the app-based EQ, and the 5-year warranty are all class-leading at this price.

PB-1000 Pro vs SB-1000 Pro, which?+

Pick the PB-1000 Pro (ported) for maximum LFE output and movie use. Pick the SB-1000 Pro (sealed) for music-first listening and a smaller cabinet. The PB has 3 dB more output below 25 Hz, the SB has tighter transient response.

How accurate is the 17 Hz claim?+

We measured the PB-1000 Pro at minus 3 dB at 17.5 Hz at the listening position. SVS's claim is honest within typical measurement variation.

Does the app really help?+

Yes. The SVS Subwoofer Control app provides 3-band parametric EQ that meaningfully reduced our room mode at 64 Hz. We measured a 6 dB reduction in the peak after EQ.

Will it pair with a Sonos Arc?+

No, the Sonos Arc only pairs with Sonos subs (Sub or Sub Mini). Use the PB-1000 Pro with an AVR or the [Klipsch RP-600M II](/reviews/klipsch-rp-600m-ii) on a stereo amp via RCA.
