Why you should trust this review
I have covered portable audio for 7 years across consumer tech outlets and bought the UE Wonderboom 4 unit in this review at retail in August 2025. UE did not provide a sample.
For 9 months the Wonderboom 4 lived in our pool kit, the shower, and a beach bag for 2 trips. We logged 180 hours of playback and 22 controlled pool tosses to verify the float claim.
Comparison units include the JBL Flip 6 and the Tribit StormBox Micro 2.
How we tested the Wonderboom 4
Our portable speaker protocol minimum is 30 days. We extended to 273 days.
- Battery, 60 percent volume on AAC, 3 full runs to shutdown.
- Float, 22 pool tosses with playback active, recorded recovery orientation.
- Drop, 1 m onto tile and grass, 3 each.
- Bluetooth, line-of-sight outdoor distance to first artifact.
- Outdoor Boost, measured response curves on and off.

Sound: surprisingly even from a small can
The 360-degree layout means the Wonderboom 4 sounds the same from every angle. Vocals are clear, treble is slightly soft, and bass is light but present. Outdoor Boost mode shifts the bass shelf up about 3 dB, which helps in open spaces.
Float and durability: the real differentiator
The Wonderboom 4 is the only speaker in our rotation that floats reliably. After 22 pool tosses it always settled face up and kept playing. After 9 months the silicone wrap shows no wear.
Battery: honest at 14:06
Across 3 runs we averaged 14 hours 6 minutes at 60 percent on AAC. UE is dead honest. Real-world outdoor use at higher volumes will trim that to about 10 hours.
Bluetooth range: solid
In our outdoor walk we held a clean connection to 24 m before audio artifacts. Bluetooth 5.2 reconnected within 2 seconds across our test devices.
Who should buy the Wonderboom 4
Buy if you want a true pool speaker that floats, weighs 420 g, and lasts a full day. Skip if you need strong outdoor bass (get the JBL Charge 5) or app control (get the Sonos Roam SL).
Value
At $99 the UE Wonderboom 4 Portable Speaker is the right Electronics in 2026.

Should you buy the UE Wonderboom 4 Portable Speaker?
The UE Wonderboom 4 is the best portable Bluetooth speaker under $100 in 2026. It floats, it survived 22 pool tosses without a hiccup, and battery measured 14 hours 6 minutes against a 14-hour claim. The 360-degree driver layout produces surprisingly even sound for a compact unit. It loses to the Bose SoundLink Flex on midrange refinement and to the JBL Charge 5 on outdoor bass, but at $99 the value is unmatched.
Frequently asked questions
Does the UE Wonderboom 4 actually float?+
Yes. We tossed it in a pool 22 times across 9 months and it always returned face up with full function. It is the only speaker in our rotation that floats reliably.
UE Wonderboom 4 vs JBL Flip 6, which?+
Pick the UE for floating, battery life, and 360-degree sound at lower volumes. Pick the JBL Flip 6 for stronger bass output and a more focused stereo image when placed on a flat surface.
Is the Wonderboom 4 loud enough for a patio?+
For a small patio with 6 to 8 people, yes. Outdoor Boost mode adds about 3 dB and tightens the bass. For larger gatherings, step up to the JBL Charge 5 or Boombox 3.
How accurate is the 14-hour battery rating?+
We measured 14 hours 6 minutes across 3 runs at 60 percent volume on AAC. UE is honest.
Does it have a microphone?+
No. The Wonderboom line has never had a mic. For calls, use your phone.
