Why you should trust this review
I’ve been reviewing creator monitors and color-critical hardware since 2017, with three years of print production work prior to journalism. I purchased our BenQ PD2725U at retail in June 2025 (panel revision B). BenQ did not provide a sample.
This monitor has been my primary photo and graphic design display for 11 months, paired with a 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 Pro and a Windows desktop with a Wacom Intuos. Roughly 1,400 logged hours of mixed Lightroom, Capture One, Photoshop, and InDesign work. Every measurement came off our colorimeter and software test suite. Full protocol on our methodology page.
How we tested the BenQ PD2725U
- Image quality: Spyder X2 colorimeter at five panel positions for brightness, contrast, DeltaE, gamma, and gamut coverage. Tests at 0, 3, 6, 9, and 11 months for color drift tracking.
- Connectivity: Thunderbolt 3 daisy chain testing with two PD2725U panels, USB-C handshake across MacBook Pro and Windows hosts.
- Real-world creator use: Lightroom catalog of 6,400 RAW files, Photoshop layered work, two print proof exports cross-checked against printed samples.
- Long-term: 11 months of daily use with backlight bleed, dead pixels, and color drift tracked monthly.
Who should buy the BenQ PD2725U?
Buy it if:
- You do print or color-critical creative work where Adobe RGB matters.
- You run multiple monitors off a Thunderbolt 3 host and want a daisy chain.
- You value the AQColor presets and the Hotkey Puck workflow.
Skip it if:
- You’re doing pure office work. The Dell U2723QE is better for less.
- You want the widest color gamut at the cheapest price. The ProArt PA279CRV is $480 less and within 4% on coverage.
- You need 90W or higher USB-C charging. 65W is the BenQ’s hardest spec limit.
Image quality: factory-calibrated and accurate
The 27-inch 4K IPS panel measured 388 nits sustained at 100% APL against a 400-nit claim. Native contrast measured 1,200:1, lower than the IPS Black on the Dell U2723QE but in the standard range for an IPS creator panel.
DeltaE averaged 0.8 across our 24-patch ColorChecker straight out of the box, with no patch above 1.4. The included per-unit calibration sheet matched within 0.15 DeltaE, the most accurate factory calibration we’ve measured on a sub-$1,000 monitor. Coverage hit 100% sRGB, 99% Adobe RGB, and 95% DCI-P3.
After 11 months we re-measured. DeltaE drifted to 1.0 average, with the worst patch at 1.7. That is still print-grade and well within Adobe RGB tolerance. BenQ ships its Palette Master Element software, which lets you re-calibrate with a Spyder, X-Rite, or Calibrite colorimeter in under 15 minutes monthly.
Connectivity: the Thunderbolt 3 story
This is what you pay extra for. The PD2725U has Thunderbolt 3 in (with 65W PD) and Thunderbolt 3 out (for daisy chaining a second display). We daisy-chained two PD2725U panels off a 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 Pro for 6 months as part of testing. A single Thunderbolt 3 cable from the MacBook carried 2x 4K 60Hz video, 65W charging, and the full USB hub on each panel. Zero handshake issues across 11 months.
The 65W charging is the meaningful spec limit. For a MacBook Air M3 or ThinkPad X1 Carbon it’s plenty. For a 16-inch MacBook Pro M4 Pro under sustained load, 65W will charge slowly but won’t drain the battery during work. If you need 90W, look at the Dell U2723QE.
The USB hub provides three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports and one USB-C downstream. Sustained transfer to a Samsung T9 SSD measured 970 MB/s, the limit of the underlying USB 3.2 Gen 2 spec.
OSD, presets, and the Hotkey Puck
The OSD is competent but feels cramped against the Dell U2723QE’s joystick navigation. BenQ’s solution is the bundled Hotkey Puck G2, a wired puck with three programmable buttons. I have it set up so button 1 switches between sRGB and Adobe RGB, button 2 toggles a Picture-in-Picture for reference photos, and button 3 cycles inputs. After 11 months I use it every day.
The AQColor presets cover sRGB, Adobe RGB, DCI-P3, Rec.709, M-Book (matches MacBook display profile), Darkroom (low blue light for night editing), CAD/CAM (high contrast), and Animation. The Darkroom and CAD/CAM modes are unusual on a creator monitor and surprisingly useful.
Ergonomics, build, and what’s missing
Stand height range is 150 mm, tilt is -5 to +20 degrees, swivel is +/-22.5 degrees, and the panel pivots 90 degrees. Build quality on the stand is meaningfully better than the Dell U2723QE, the matte aluminum-finish base and arm feel premium. The hood-style anti-glare visor is included in the box and has been useful for window-side work.
There are no built-in speakers. The bezel is thicker than current ultra-thin trends, but the panel sits at 4.0mm bezel-to-active-area on three sides. The 60Hz refresh rate is the most defensible criticism, and at this price most competitors offer either 60Hz with better creator features (BenQ’s choice) or 120Hz+ with weaker color (gaming panels).
After 11 months: zero dead pixels, no backlight bleed beyond first measurement, no daisy chain failures, no warranty events.

Should you buy the BenQ PD2725U?
The BenQ PD2725u is the 4K 27-inch creator monitor I'd buy if Adobe RGB and a Thunderbolt 3 daisy chain matter for your work. After 11 months of daily edits we measured 99% Adobe RGB coverage, factory DeltaE 0.8, and Thunderbolt 3 charging plus daisy chaining that worked flawlessly across MacBook Pro and Windows hosts. At $949 it's expensive next to the Dell U2723QE, but the wider color gamut and the daisy chain are real reasons to pay the premium for print and creative work.

How accurate is the factory calibration?+
Excellent. We measured DeltaE averaging 0.8 across our 24-patch ColorChecker straight out of the box. The included per-unit calibration sheet matched our measurements within 0.15. After 11 months we re-measured and DeltaE drifted to 1.0, still print-grade. BenQ also bundles its Palette Master Element software for monthly recalibration with a colorimeter.
