The Beyond Yoga Spacedye Caught in the Midi is the legging that built a cult following on Instagram before the brand had retail distribution. Five months into wearing mine, the marled Spacedye fabric still looks like it did out of the package, the hand-feel rivals the Lululemon Nulu, and the made-in-USA construction has held up across 30 wash cycles. At $99 it sits at the same price tier as the Align but the aesthetic and the brand story are different. For yoga and lounge wear in 2026 it earns its place.
Why you should trust this review
I have written about activewear since 2019 and have rotated through every Beyond Yoga line in the current catalog. For this review I purchased one pair of the Spacedye Caught in the Midi at retail in Black Spacedye, size Medium. Beyond Yoga did not provide a sample. The pair went through approximately 30 wash cycles on cold, line-dried. I tracked pilling, color marling, opacity, and waistband recovery at month 1, 3, and 5.
How we tested the Beyond Yoga Spacedye
- 5 months of three-times-weekly wear across yoga, walking, and casual lounging
- Squat-proof opacity check in Black Spacedye and Nantucket Spacedye under direct studio lighting
- 30 wash cycles, line-dried, with pilling and color check
- Sizing comparison across 5โ2โ, 5โ5โ, and 5โ7โ frames
- Side-by-side comparison against Lululemon Align, Alo Airbrush, and Old Navy PowerSoft
For our full testing protocol, see our methodology page.
Who should buy the Spacedye?
Buy if:
- You wear yoga leggings four or more days a week
- You like the marled aesthetic and want longer pilling-disguise
- You are between 5โ5โ and 5โ10โ (the 28-inch midi length suits taller frames)
- You value Made-in-USA construction and traceability
Skip if:
- You are under 5โ5โ (the midi length looks awkward)
- You need pockets (this pair has none)
- You want firmer compression for training
Marled Spacedye fabric: the brandโs signature
The Spacedye fabric is what built Beyond Yogaโs reputation. The marled colorways are made by twisting two yarns of slightly different colors before knitting, which creates a heathered effect that hides pilling, snags, and minor color fade much longer than solid colors. After 30 washes my Black Spacedye pair shows almost no visible wear, while a similarly aged solid-black Lululemon Align in my drawer has visible inner-thigh pilling.
Comfort: rivals the Lululemon Nulu
The hand-feel on the Spacedye fabric is buttery in a way I expected only from Lululemon. Side-by-side with my Aligns, the Beyond Yoga reads slightly thicker and slightly less compressive but the softness is almost identical. After a 90-minute hot yoga class my pair came out of the studio without waistband pressure marks.
Midi length: a love-it-or-hate-it cut
The 28-inch inseam hits below the calf, which is the brandโs signature midi length. On a 5โ7โ frame it lands at the lower calf and reads modern. On 5โ5โ it hits mid-calf and starts to feel slightly awkward. On 5โ2โ it looks unintentionally cropped. This is the single biggest fit decision for the Spacedye and you should look at the brandโs regular 7/8 length if the midi proportion does not work for you.
Squat-proof opacity: depends on the colorway
In Black Spacedye, the leggings passed the forward-fold test under direct studio lighting at month 1 and month 5. In Nantucket Spacedye (a lighter blue marled colorway), I saw partial sheerness during a deep squat. The dark colors are reliably opaque; lighter Spacedyes are not.
Durability: 30 washes, the marled fabric still looks new
The combined effect of the marled fabric and Beyond Yogaโs higher-density knit means visible wear shows up much later than on solid colors. After 30 wash cycles, no visible pilling on the inner thigh, no color loss, and no stretching at the waistband. This is one of the more durable yoga leggings at this price tier.
Should you buy the Beyond Yoga Spacedye?
For yoga and lounge wear at 5โ5โ and taller, yes. The Spacedye fabric earns its cult following and the made-in-USA construction is a bonus. For shorter frames, look at the regular 7/8 length in the same fabric. For pure softness in a slightly different aesthetic, the Lululemon Align is the comparable spend.

Should you buy the Beyond Yoga Spacedye Caught in the Midi High-Waisted Legging?
Beyond Yoga's Spacedye Caught in the Midi is the legging that built the brand. The marled fabric hides pilling, the high-rise stays put through forward folds, and the buttery hand-feel rivals the Lululemon Align. The midi length sits below the calf and not everyone loves the proportion. At $99 it is essentially Align money for a slightly different aesthetic.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Beyond Yoga Spacedye worth $99 in 2026?+
If you wear yoga leggings four or more days a week and value the marled aesthetic, yes. The Spacedye fabric hides pilling longer than solid colors, and the Made-in-USA construction adds traceability. For pure softness, the Lululemon Align is comparable at $1 less.
Beyond Yoga vs Lululemon Align: which is better?+
Align is slightly softer and has a hidden waistband pocket. Beyond Yoga has a more interesting marled aesthetic that hides wear better. For pure feel, Align. For style and pilling resistance, Beyond Yoga.
How does the midi length work for shorter frames?+
The 28-inch inseam hits below the calf on a 5'5" frame and at the lower calf on 5'7". On 5'2" or shorter, it can read awkwardly long. If you are under 5'5" and want the same fabric, look at the regular 7/8 length.
Are the Spacedye leggings squat-proof?+
In dark marled colorways like Black or Charcoal, yes. In lighter Spacedye options like Nantucket Spacedye or Pearl, we saw partial sheerness in deep squats. Stick to dark for movement, light for casual wear.
