Why you should trust this review
I have been reviewing video lighting for 9 years across editorial outlets, and I bought two Neewer 660 RGB panels at retail in July 2025. Neewer did not provide samples. Over the past 10 months I have used these panels on a weekly two-camera YouTube series, two paid corporate interview shoots, and a personal product photography project. Combined runtime across both panels at the time of this update is about 240 hours.
I tested the Neewer 660 RGB directly against the Aputure Amaran P60c, the Godox LD75R, and the older Neewer NL480 under identical light meter conditions. CRI was scored on a Sekonic C-800 spectrometer at 5,600 K and 3,200 K. Output was scored on a Sekonic L-858D meter at 1 meter from the panel. See the methodology page for the full protocol.
How we tested the Neewer 660 RGB
- CRI and TLCI. Sekonic C-800 spectrometer at 5,600 K and 3,200 K, 30 trials each.
- Output power. Sekonic L-858D meter at 1 meter from the panel, full output at 5,600 K.
- Color temperature accuracy. Spectrometer measurement at five set points (3,200, 3,800, 4,400, 5,000, 5,600 K) versus the panel’s display.
- RGB color reproduction. Six saturated hue points (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta) compared against a Datacolor SpyderCheckr 24 chart.
- Battery runtime. Continuous full-brightness operation on an NP-F970 battery until cutoff.
Who should buy the Neewer 660 RGB?
This light is the right choice for you if:
- You build a starter YouTube or interview kit on a budget.
- You need a small fill or accent light alongside a brighter key.
- You shoot product flat lays where 360 lux at 1 meter is enough output.
- You want full RGB capability in a single panel for B-roll color accents.
It is not the right choice if:
- You light an entire room as your key. The Aputure 60d or Amaran P60c are 5x brighter.
- You work in an active studio with frequent setup tear-downs. The plastic frame is not as durable as aluminum.
- You need pixel-precise color accuracy for skin tones in commercial work. The slight green tint at 4,000 K is correctable but not invisible.
Color accuracy: where the Neewer 660 punches above $99
In our spectrometer tests at 5,600 K we measured a CRI of 96.8 across 30 trials, within 0.2 of Neewer’s CRI 97 claim. TLCI rated at 97 came in at 96.4 measured. For a $99 panel that is genuinely class-leading. The slight green tint at 4,000 K is the one wrinkle. We dial in a minus 5 tint correction in Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve and move on. RGB color reproduction across the six tested hue points was within plus or minus 6 hue degrees of the Datacolor reference.
Output and ergonomics: limits to know about
At 1 meter the panel measured 360 lux at 5,600 K full brightness. That is enough for fill at 1 to 2 m subject distance, for product flat lays, and for two-light interview setups when ambient daylight bounces. It is not enough to overpower direct sun outdoors or to light an entire scene as your sole key in a 4 by 4 m room.
The plastic frame is the main durability concern. After 10 months of weekly use both panels show no cracks, but the yoke knob loosens occasionally and needs a quarter turn tightening. The NP-F battery option is genuinely useful and we get about 75 minutes of runtime at full brightness on a Neewer NP-F970 7,500 mAh pack.
