Vegan leather: the practicality story
The Orbitkey’s surface is PU vegan leather laminated over a recycled fabric base. The result is a surface that feels close to real leather but cleans like vinyl. In testing, coffee spills wipe up with a damp paper towel without staining, and ink marks come off with a magic eraser.
The texture is matte rather than glossy, which means mouse tracking is consistent and the surface does not show fingerprints. Over 4 months of daily use the mat shows no surface wear in the working area, only minor edge softening at the corners where it has been folded.

The hidden tray is a recessed pocket on the underside of the mat, accessed by lifting the front-left corner. The tray contains a thin magnetic strip that holds steel keys, paperclips, AirPods cases, and small tools.
In testing, the tray is more useful than it sounds. House keys and the AirPods Pro case both stick reliably to the magnet, and the tray stays hidden when the mat sits flat. The only complaint is that the magnet picks up metal dust and small screws from the room over time, the tray needs a wipe with a microfiber cloth every couple of weeks.
The foldable design uses the magnetic strip as a hinge, the mat folds at the seam without leaving a permanent crease. For a buyer who travels between two desks, the fold is a real benefit. For a stationary home desk it is a nice-to-have.
Build quality and the 2-year warranty
Orbitkey’s 2-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in the materials and the stitching. Normal wear (edge stitching softening, corner curl, surface scuffs) is not covered.
Owner reports flag the edge stitching as the most common 18-plus month failure point. The PU surface holds up well, but the stitching at the perimeter can soften and start to fray after heavy daily use.
