The OXO Good Grips 11-Inch Stainless Steel Balloon Whisk is the everyday whisk that lives in the utensil crock on my counter. Vinaigrettes, scrambled eggs, pan sauces, and béchamel all start with this whisk in my hand. The stainless wires hold their balloon shape under pressure, the soft-grip handle stays put in oily hands, and the rounded wire tips do not scratch nonstick cookware. After six months of daily use the wires are straight, the handle is tight, and the silicone seal at the base shows no cracking. For $12 it is the best value balloon whisk in our test.
Why you should trust this review
I have written kitchen reviews for The Tested Hub for the past two years and whisk something at least once per day in my home kitchen. This OXO was purchased at retail; OXO did not provide a sample. I have direct comparison experience with the Williams Sonoma Open Kitchen, Mrs. Anderson’s, and a generic silicone-coated whisk that lost a wire after 60 days. For testing protocol, see methodology.
How we tested the OXO Whisk
- Used the whisk daily across 42+ hours of work including vinaigrettes, scrambled eggs, pan sauces, and meringues.
- Whisked 30+ vinaigrettes, scoring emulsion stability and time to emulsify.
- Made 20+ pan sauces in nonstick and stainless pans, scoring wire flex and cookware safety.
- Whisked 8 meringues to stiff peaks, timing each and scoring foam stability.
- Ran 70+ dishwasher cycles, inspecting monthly for handle separation or rust.
Whisking power: 8 wires move air efficiently
The 8-wire balloon shape moves air efficiently. A 6-egg meringue reaches stiff peaks in roughly 4 minutes of steady whisking. A standard vinaigrette emulsifies in about 25 seconds of brisk whisking. The wires are stiff enough to push through thick batters but flexible enough to scrape the inside of a bowl cleanly. The Mrs. Anderson’s has similar wires for less money; the OXO advantage is the handle, not the wires.
Grip: the OXO signature
The Santoprene soft-grip handle is the feature that earns the price premium. Oily and floury hands do not slip, and the handle does not twist during fast whisking. The Williams Sonoma all-stainless handle is colder in the hand and can be slippery when wet. For everyday whisking the OXO grip is the right choice. After 6 months and 70+ dishwasher cycles the handle has not loosened or separated.
Nonstick safety: rounded tips, no scratches
The wire tips are rounded rather than blunt-cut. After 6 months of use across nonstick Anolon and All-Clad pans, no scratches have developed on the cooking surfaces. For cooks who use nonstick this is a real consideration; some cheap stainless whisks have sharp cut tips that score nonstick coatings after a few months.
Wire durability: 6 months, still straight
The wires have not bent out of shape despite some hard whisking on thick pancake batter. The crimp at the base where the wires meet the handle is tight and shows no movement. The silicone seal that closes the bottom of the handle keeps water and food from entering the handle interior; this is the main cause of failure in cheaper whisks where the handle fills with grease and rusts the wires from the inside.
Cleanup: dishwasher friendly
The whisk runs cleanly through the dishwasher. After 70+ cycles I see no rust, no spotting, and no handle separation. For sticky residue like caramel or melted chocolate, a hot water soak for two minutes loosens the residue. The silicone seal can stain slightly with curry or tomato sauce; the stain is cosmetic and does not affect performance.
Who should buy the OXO Whisk?
Buy if: you whisk something most days, you value a secure grip in oily or floury hands, and you use nonstick cookware.
Skip if: you whisk in tall stockpots and need a 14-inch length (the OXO is too short), you want an all-stainless build for the highest dishwasher cycles (the Williams Sonoma is the alternative), or you only whisk occasionally and the Mrs. Anderson’s at $9 is enough.

Frequently asked questions
Is the OXO whisk worth $12 in 2026?+
Yes. The soft-grip handle is the feature that earns the premium over cheaper stainless whisks. For cooks who whisk vinaigrettes or pan sauces several times a week, the grip security pays for itself.
OXO vs Williams Sonoma whisk: which should I buy?+
OXO if you want the soft-grip handle for wet hands. Williams Sonoma if you want an all-stainless build that goes in any dishwasher cycle including high heat. Both whisks are solid; pick on handle preference.
Is it safe for nonstick?+
Yes. The rounded wire tips do not scratch nonstick coatings. After 6 months of use on Anolon Nouvelle Copper pans no scratches developed.
Can I use it in a pot of boiling stock?+
Yes for short whisking. The 11-inch length puts your hand close to the heat for tall stockpots; for long stand-up whisking a 14-inch whisk is more comfortable.
