The Wrangler Authentics Cargo has been my default weekend pant for seven months. I bought a pair in dark khaki at retail in late September 2025 because my older pair of 5.11 Stryke pants were too nice for muddy weekend projects. The Authentics Cargo is built from a 7 oz cotton-poly twill that runs lighter than premium tactical fabric but holds up well for the price point. Mine have been through stacking firewood, two fishing trips, three weekend yard projects, and at least 25 wash cycles. The seams remain tight, the color has not faded, and the cargo pockets still hold their gear cleanly.
Why you should trust this review
I bought these pants at retail. I have owned 5.11 Stryke, Dickies Loose Fit Cargo, and Carhartt Rugged Flex Rigby cargos across the last decade and have written long-term notes on tactical and casual cargo pants for this site. See our methodology page.
How we tested the Authentics Cargo
- 7 months of weekend and daily wear from late September 2025 through early May 2026
- Two fishing trips with knee abrasion against rocky shorelines
- Three weekend yard projects including stacking firewood and post-hole digging
- 25 plus wash cycles tracked for shrinkage, fade, and Velcro retention
- Compared back-to-back with Dickies Loose Fit Cargo for fit and durability notes
Who should buy the Wrangler Authentics Cargo
Buy if you want a low-cost cargo pant for weekend wear, casual use, or muddy work that would ruin nicer pants. Buy if you respect a pant that arrives hemmed and stays sized correctly. Skip if you need a premium tactical pant for serious field use (the 5.11 Stryke is the better choice) or if you want long-term durability for trade work (Dickies Loose Fit is heavier built).
Fabric and finish
The 7 oz cotton-poly blend has the structure of work twill but lighter weight. Out of the box, the fabric feels firm and structured. After 25 plus wash cycles, the color has held without noticeable fade and shrinkage measured under a quarter inch. Stains from mud and fish slime rinsed out in warm machine washing with a standard detergent.
Cargo pockets
The six pockets include two reinforced cargo pockets on the thighs with Velcro flap closures. The Velcro held cleanly for the first 4 months and has lost some stickiness after 25 plus washes. The pockets hold a multitool, work gloves, and a 16 oz water bottle without sagging. They are not as deep as 5.11 Stryke pockets but cover most everyday cargo needs.
Fit and sizing
The waistband runs roughly half an inch larger than labeled. Order one size smaller than your actual waist measurement if you want a clean fit. The relaxed straight cut runs over work boots without bunching and the inseam arrives hemmed at the listed length.
Verdict
The Authentics Cargo is the right cargo pant for weekend wear and casual use at the lowest price point. For more options, see our other clothing reviews.

Frequently asked questions
Are the Wrangler Authentics Cargo worth $25 in 2026?+
Yes. For 25 dollars they deliver a real cotton-poly twill, six functional cargo pockets, and consistent sizing. Most cargos at this price are made from thin polyester that wrinkles and fades within a season. The Authentics holds up for 12 to 18 months of regular wear.
Wrangler Authentics vs Dickies Loose Fit Cargo, which should I pick?+
Pick the Wrangler Authentics for the lowest price entry and casual or weekend wear. Pick the Dickies Loose Fit for trade and worksite use, the heavier 8.5 oz twill stands up to abrasion better.
How should the Authentics Cargo fit?+
Order one waist size smaller than your actual measurement, the labeled waist runs roughly half an inch large. The relaxed straight cut leaves room over work boots.
Do the cargo pockets hold tools?+
Yes for everyday items like a multitool, gloves, or a 16 oz water bottle. The Velcro flaps hold cleanly out of the box and lose some stickiness after 25 plus wash cycles. They are not as deep as premium tactical pockets.
