Build a dermatologist-style AM/PM skincare routine in 30 seconds. Pick your skin type and top concerns — get a step-by-step list of what to apply, in what order, and what to skip.
Regardless of skin type, products are applied thinnest to thickest. Water-based serums absorb through skin in seconds; oils and balms sit on top and lock everything in. Applied in the wrong order, the heavy stuff blocks the lighter ingredients from doing anything.
The order is: cleanser → toner (optional) → treatment serum → eye cream → moisturizer → SPF (AM only) or face oil (PM only). That's it. Marketing complicates it; the order doesn't change.
Skin turnover is roughly 28 days at age 20 and 40-60 days by age 50. So nothing works in a week. Give any new product 6-8 weeks before judging. Vitamin C brightens fastest (~4 weeks). Retinol takes 12 weeks for fine line improvement. Acne actives can purge for 4-6 weeks before improving.
