What to look for in a kayak cooler
Weight: Every pound in a kayak affects performance and safety. For most kayaks, keep your cooler under 8 lbs empty. Soft coolers win this category every time.
Waterproofing: Your cooler will get wet. Either the contents must be waterproof (sealed soft cooler) or the cooler must be secured high enough to stay dry. Waterproof soft coolers give the most flexibility.
Dimensions: Measure your kayak hatch or deck well before buying. Soft coolers that compress are far more forgiving than hard-sided units.
Securing options: Look for lash points, D-rings, or straps built into the cooler design. Smooth exteriors with no attachment points are hard to secure to a deck.
