Why you should trust this review

I have been reviewing indoor air quality and home environment gear for 8 years, with prior bylines at Apartment Therapy and a long stint as the home test bench writer for a Pacific Northwest air quality blog. For this review I purchased the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ at retail in July 2025. Blueair did not provide a sample. Across 10 months I logged roughly 6,800 hours of runtime in a 540 square foot bedroom in a wildfire prone climate.

I tested the 211+ against the Levoit Core 600S, the Coway Airmega 200M, and a GermGuardian AC4825E budget pick. Same Temtop M2000C particulate counter, same room conditions.

How we tested the Blue Pure 211+

Our purifier protocol runs a minimum of 60 days. For the 211+ we extended testing to 304 days. The specific tests:

  • Initial CADR, controlled smoke source in a sealed 540 square foot room.
  • Sustained filtration, daily PM2.5 averages across 10 months.
  • Noise, dB meter at 1 meter on each of the 3 speeds.
  • Filter life, replacement at month 6 with visible loading inspection at months 3, 6, and 9.
  • Pre-filter wash cycle, 8 wash cycles to confirm fabric durability.
  • Power draw, plug load meter at each speed.
  • Wildfire performance, indoor vs outdoor PM2.5 across 1 event.

Full protocol on our methodology page.

Who should buy the Blue Pure 211+?

Buy it if you:

  • Want the quietest top speed in this CADR class.
  • Have a bedroom or living room between 350 and 540 square feet.
  • Like the Scandinavian aesthetic (the unit comes in 5 fabric sleeve colors).
  • Prefer simple manual controls over app driven smart features.

Skip it if you:

  • Want app or voice control. Use the Levoit Core 600S instead.
  • Need a PM2.5 sensor and auto mode. The 211+ has neither.
  • Want the lowest filter cost in this category. The Coway 200M is cheaper to maintain.
  • Have a great room above 540 square feet.

Filtration performance: honest CADR, slower initial cleanup

In our sealed 540 square foot room test, the 211+ reduced PM2.5 from 150 to 12 micrograms per cubic meter in 19 minutes on high. The Levoit Core 600S in a 600 square foot room did the same in 14 minutes. The CADR rating of 350 is honest and matches AHAM testing.

For sustained baseline filtration, daily PM2.5 averaged 7 micrograms per cubic meter across 10 months in our test room. That is in the EPA good range and almost identical to the Levoit Core 600S in a similar setup.

Noise: the standout result

We measured 31 dB on low, 39 dB on medium, and 49 dB on high at 1 meter. The high speed result is 5 dB lower than the Levoit Core 600S turbo and 3 dB lower than the Coway 200M high. That difference is real, in side by side listening the 211+ on max sounds noticeably less aggressive.

Blueair achieves this with a simpler radial fan design and a different blade geometry. The trade off is fewer speeds (3 vs 5 on the Levoit) and a slower initial cleanup time. For a bedroom or living room where you might run high during cooking and want to stay relaxed, the quieter top end is worth it.

Pre-filter sleeve: the maintenance trick

The 211+ ships with a washable fabric pre-filter sleeve that catches large particles before they hit the main filter. We washed ours every 4 to 6 weeks in a cold cycle. After 8 wash cycles the fabric showed no fraying or color loss.

The sleeve genuinely extends main filter life. Without the pre-filter we would expect a particle filter to load up in 4 to 5 months at our usage. With the pre-filter we replaced the inner filter at month 6 with normal loading.

Replacement sleeves are sold separately at $20 each. We have not needed a second one in 10 months.

Filter cost: middle of the pack

The genuine Blueair particle plus carbon filter is $50 to $60 with a 6 month rated life. At our usage that worked out to around $110 per year for filters plus $20 every 18 to 24 months for a sleeve replacement. Total annual maintenance is around $120.

That sits between the Levoit Core 600S ($85 per year) and the Coway 200M ($60 per year). The Blueair price reflects the design and the brand premium.

Build quality and 10 month durability

The 211+ feels premium. The fabric sleeve, the matte plastic top, and the single fabric covered button all read like more expensive product than the price suggests. After 10 months we have zero squeaks, zero motor variance, and the fabric sleeve still looks new.

The lack of an LED display or PM2.5 sensor is intentional. If you want a clean appliance that disappears into the room and runs for years, the 211+ delivers. If you want to see real time air quality data, this is the wrong purifier.

โ˜… FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the Blueair Blue Pure 211+?

The Blue Pure 211+ is the air purifier to pick if quietness on top speed matters more than raw CADR. We measured 49 dB on max, 5 dB lower than the Levoit Core 600S. CADR of 350 is honest, the cleanable pre-filter saves money on filter life, and 10 months of daily use produced zero motor or sensor issues. It loses to the Levoit on smart features (the 211+ has none) and to the Coway on price.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Blue Pure 211+ worth $249 in 2026?+

If you want the quietest top speed in its class and a no fuss appliance with no app, yes. If you want smart features, the Levoit Core 600S is the better pick at $50 more.

Blue Pure 211+ vs Levoit Core 600S: which?+

Pick the Blueair for quieter max speed, the washable pre-filter, and the cleaner aesthetic. Pick the Levoit for higher CADR, app and Alexa control, and slightly larger room coverage.

How does the washable pre-filter sleeve work?+

It is a fabric outer cover that slides on like a cushion cover. We washed ours in a cold cycle every 4 to 6 weeks. The inner particle and carbon filter underneath lasts 6 months. Total filter cost over a year is around $80.

Why are there only 3 speeds?+

Blueair targets a simple non smart appliance. Low handles bedroom baseline, medium handles average household activity, high handles cooking events or wildfire spikes. We rarely missed a fourth speed in 10 months of use.

Is it noisy enough to disturb sleep?+

On low we measured 31 dB at 1 meter. On medium 39 dB. On high 49 dB. Low is bedroom appropriate. Medium is the boundary, fine for many sleepers. High is loud but quieter than the Levoit Core 600S top speed by 5 dB.
