Why you should trust this review

I have been reviewing indoor air quality and home environment gear for 10 years with prior bylines at The Wirecutter and a long stint at a Bay Area HVAC consultancy. For this review I purchased the Levoit Core 600S at retail in September 2025. Levoit did not provide a sample. Across 8 months I logged roughly 5,800 hours of runtime in a 600 square foot great room with two pets and regular cooking activity.

I tested the Core 600S against the Coway Airmega 200M, the Blueair Blue Pure 211+, and a Winix 5500-2 using the same Temtop M2000C particulate counter and the same room conditions.

How we tested the Levoit Core 600S

Our purifier protocol runs a minimum of 60 days. For the Core 600S we extended testing to 245 days. The specific tests:

  • Initial CADR, time to reduce PM2.5 from 150 to 12 micrograms per cubic meter in a sealed 600 square foot space with a controlled smoke source.
  • Sustained filtration, baseline PM2.5 averaged daily across 8 months.
  • Auto mode response, time from event spike to fan speed up, repeated across cooking, candle, and door open events.
  • App reliability, 50 voice commands and 30 schedule executions.
  • Noise, dB meter at 1 meter on each speed.
  • Filter life, indicator behavior and air resistance at months 6, 9, and 12.
  • Power draw, plug load meter at each speed.

Who should buy the Levoit Core 600S?

Buy it if you:

  • Have a great room, open plan kitchen, or large bedroom between 400 and 635 square feet.
  • Want app and voice control with PM2.5 history graphs.
  • Live in a wildfire or pollen prone area and want a unit that handles seasonal spikes.
  • Already use VeSync products and want a unified app.

Skip it if you:

  • Have a smaller room. The Coway Airmega 200M does the same job for less.
  • Avoid Wi-Fi appliances. The unit works manually but you lose the strongest feature.
  • Need VOC removal in a paint shop or chemistry workspace. The carbon stage is light for that load.
  • Want the lowest possible filter cost. The Blueair 211+ is cheaper to maintain.

Filtration performance: best in class for under $300

In our sealed 600 square foot room test with controlled smoke, the Core 600S reduced PM2.5 from 150 to 12 micrograms per cubic meter in 14 minutes on turbo. The Blueair 211+ in the same test took 19 minutes, the Coway 200M took 22 minutes (in its rated 360 square foot room).

The CADR of 410 across smoke, dust, and pollen is honest and reflects in real world cleanup speed. For a great room this is the spec to chase.

Sustained baseline: 8 months of EPA good range

Across 8 months of daily continuous operation in our 600 square foot great room, the unit on auto held PM2.5 at an average of 6 micrograms per cubic meter (EPA good is below 12). Cooking events spiked to 60 to 110 micrograms briefly, and the unit returned the room to below 12 within 8 to 14 minutes depending on the event size.

We had 2 pets in the room throughout, an indoor air baseline that includes pet dander would normally read 14 to 20 micrograms in a similar untreated room. The 600S held us at 6.

VeSync app and smart features: the practical advantage

The VeSync app is the reason to pick the 600S over a non smart competitor. PM2.5 history shows clear daily and weekly patterns which helped us identify a cooking ventilation issue in our test home. Schedules executed reliably across our 30 test runs. Alexa routines hit 47 of 50 commands.

The v4.2 update in January 2026 added a cleaner PM2.5 history graph and improved firmware update reliability. The app is now the most polished in this category in our view.

Noise: low is excellent, max is loud

We measured 27 dB on low, 34 dB on medium, 42 dB on the manual 3 setting, and 54 dB on turbo at 1 meter. Low and medium are bedroom appropriate. Turbo is loud, comparable to a quiet vacuum. We use turbo only for post cooking cleanup, never overnight.

In auto mode across 8 months, the 600S ran on low or sleep 76 percent of the time, manual 2 about 14 percent, and 3 or turbo only during specific events.

Filter cost and life: the ongoing line item

The genuine Levoit 600S replacement filter is $80 to $99 with a 12 month rated life. Our indicator turned amber at month 11 and visible loading was clear by then. Annual cost at moderate use is around $85.

That is roughly $25 to $30 more per year than the Coway 200M and around $5 more than the Blueair 211+. Factor it in if you are sensitive to ongoing costs.

โ˜… FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the Levoit Core 600S?

The Levoit Core 600S is the air purifier we recommend most for great rooms and open plan spaces in 2026. CADR of 410 (smoke) is best in class at this price, the VeSync app gives you genuine remote control and PM2.5 history, and 8 months of daily use confirmed the unit holds 600 square feet to EPA good range. It is louder than the Coway Airmega 200M on high, the carbon stage is light for VOC heavy environments, and the price has crept up since launch.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Levoit Core 600S worth $299 in 2026?+

If you have a room above 400 square feet, yes. The CADR of 410 is best in class at this price and the smart features actually work. For smaller rooms, the Coway Airmega 200M does the same job for $110 less.

Levoit Core 600S vs Blueair 211+: which one?+

Pick the Levoit for app control, smart auto mode, faster initial cleanup, and slightly quieter low setting. Pick the Blueair for marginally better quietness on max speed and a more affordable filter cost.

How accurate is the 635 square foot coverage rating?+

In our 600 square foot great room test, the unit on auto held PM2.5 in the EPA good range during normal cooking and pet activity. We would not push it past 600 square feet for fast cleanup, but for sustained filtration it works to spec.

Does the VeSync app actually help?+

Yes. PM2.5 history shows clear daily and weekly patterns. Schedules let us run the unit on high for 30 minutes after dinner cleanup and drop to auto for the night. Alexa routines fired correctly in 47 of 50 commands.

How much does annual filter cost?+

Around $80 to $90 per year. The genuine Levoit replacement is $80 to $99 and lasts 12 months at moderate use. We replaced at month 11 when the indicator turned amber and air resistance was clearly higher.
