Why you should trust this review
I cover phone accessories at The Tested Hub and have tested roughly 30 premium phone cases across the iPhone 14 through 16 Pro generations. For this review I bought the Pitaka MagEZ Case Pro at retail in November 2025. Pitaka did not provide a sample. The case has been on my personal iPhone 16 Pro for 6 months.
I tested the case against the Apple Silicone Case with MagSafe and the Spigen Tough Armor on the same iPhone 16 Pro across daily pocket carry, two cycling commutes per week, and a 4-foot drop test.
How we tested the Pitaka MagEZ Case Pro

- Slimness measurement: digital caliper measurement of added thickness at the rails, the back, and the bezel cutout.
- MagSafe test: vertical attachment on a Belkin BoostCharge Pro, charging wattage measured with an inline USB-C power meter.
- Drop test: 3-foot and 4-foot controlled drops onto carpet and pavement, screen-up, screen-down, and corner orientations.
- Long-term wear: aramid weave inspection at 30-day intervals, magnet strength check at 90 and 180 days.
Who should buy the Pitaka MagEZ Case Pro?
Buy this case if:
- You want a case that adds almost nothing to the iPhone 16 Pro’s thickness.
- You use MagSafe and Pitaka’s MagEZ accessories like car mounts and wallets.
- You appreciate carbon-weave aesthetics and want a unique finish.
- You drop your phone rarely and from low heights, like a coffee table or a desk.
Skip it if:
- You drop your phone often or from above 4 feet, choose the OtterBox Defender Pro.
- You want maximum protection per dollar, the Spigen Tough Armor is half the price with similar drop survival.
- You need port covers, a screen lip, or a holster.
Slimness: the headline feature
The MagEZ Case Pro adds 1.5mm of thickness per side, measured with a digital caliper at the side rails. That is the thinnest premium case we have tested in 2026. By comparison, the Apple Silicone Case with MagSafe adds 2.5mm and the Spigen Tough Armor adds 2.8mm. The iPhone 16 Pro feels almost bare in the hand, which is the entire reason to choose this case.
The aramid fiber weave is mostly decorative. The actual structural component is the polycarbonate inner liner. The weave adds abrasion resistance and the carbon-weave finish that resists fingerprints, but it is not what stops the phone from cracking on a drop.
MagSafe: full-strength attachment
MagSafe is one of the strongest parts of the case. The native magnet ring is full-strength. We measured a steady 15W on a Belkin BoostCharge Pro using an inline USB-C power meter, and the magnet held the phone firmly on a vent mount through a 60 mph highway test. The case is also part of Pitaka’s MagEZ accessory ecosystem, which means it clicks into Pitaka car mounts, wallets, and stands with a stronger lock than a standard MagSafe accessory.
If you already own Pitaka accessories, the MagEZ system compatibility is a meaningful reason to choose this case over a generic premium case.
Drop protection and value
Pitaka rates the case to 4-foot drop survival. We tested at 3 and 4 feet onto carpet and pavement. Across six drops the iPhone 16 Pro took zero damage. The polycarbonate liner showed no cracks, the aramid weave showed no abrasion, and the camera bezel held its shape. We did not push to 6 feet, the case is not rated for that height and we do not test above the rated height for thin cases.
The value equation is the trade-off. At $89 the case protects similarly to a $24 Spigen Tough Armor. The premium pays for thinness, finish, and the MagEZ accessory ecosystem. If those features do not matter to you, choose the cheaper option.
Long-term wear after 6 months
The aramid weave shows no fraying or peeling at the edges. The polycarbonate liner is crack-free. The magnet ring still holds firmly to MagSafe accessories at the same strength as on day one. The carbon-weave finish has accumulated no visible scuffing in the high-contact areas, the corners and the bezel ring. This is one of the best-aging premium cases we have tested. For a thicker pocketable case with similar grip, the Smartish Gripzilla is a more affordable alternative.

After 6 months on an iPhone 16 Pro, the Pitaka MagEZ Case Pro is the thin-case champion of 2026. The aramid fiber weave keeps the phone at near-bare thickness (1.5mm added per side), MagSafe charges at a full 15W, and a 4-foot drop test left zero damage. The trade-offs are the $89 price and limited drop rating compared to a true rugged case.
